INE data confirms GDP growth higher than national average
The data released today by the National Statistics Institute (INE) and the Azores Regional Statistics Service (SREA) confirm the strength and dynamics of the Azorean economy, with Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth above the national average. In real terms, the GDP of the Azores grew by 2.3% in 2024, according to provisional data, exceeding the national average, which stood at 2.1%. This performance places the Azores among the regions with the highest economic growth in the country, alongside the North and the Algarve. Regarding 2023, the final data also confirm a consistent growth trajectory for the Azorean economy, consolidating a favourable economic cycle that will continue into 2024. This performance is particularly significant in a context where the Portuguese economy has recently been highlighted, both nationally and internationally, as one of the best-performing economies in the European Union. Even so, the Azores manage to achieve results above the national average, demonstrating the effectiveness of the public policies implemented and the adaptability and resilience of the regional economic fabric. The Regional Government emphasises that these results reinforce confidence in the future of the Region and confirm that the economic growth achieved is sustained, balanced and aligned with the social and territorial cohesion goals, continuing to create conditions for more investment, employment and improved income for Azorean families.
