The General Secretariat of the Presidency is responsible for preserving and making available the Historical Archive of the Government Presidency.
Itis in this respect that in 2006, and with the publication of Regional Regulatory Decree No 5/2006/A of 16 February, the Information and Documentation Centre, now called the Information Centre, an information and documentary support service of the Presidency of the Regional Government of the Azores, was set up to collect, preserve, manage and provide all the information received and produced by the Presidency services and to make available all the technical, scientific and cultural information needed for the proper performance of its tasks.
The powers of the Information Centre are set out in Article 17 of Regional Regulatory Decree No 18/2015/A of 30 September and consist, inter alia, of the following tasks:
- Collect, analyse, process and disseminate the documentation and technical information necessary for PGRA’s activity;
- To organise and keep up to date existing or other documentation files necessary for the proper functioning of the service;
- Analyse, propose and arrange for the acquisition of relevant information sources to support decision-making in the services;
- Ensure the reception, cataloguing and preservation of all acquired works;
- Organise and ensure the functioning of the specialised library using computer technology;
- Drawing up, using computerised means, and keeping up to date, the inventory and register of documents and literature;
- Organise and update databases of legislation and promote their connection to other databases
- Study and propose rules to standardise the classification of documents and their periods of storage and destruction;
- Draw up the Service Archives Regulations and submit it for higher approval;
- Organise and maintain the archive and technically support the other services in this area;
- Promote the organisation and storage of the historical archive and propose standards for the regulation of its consultation and use;
- Drawing up and updating tables for the selection and evaluation of documents in accordance with the legislation in force;
- Promote the establishment and updating of the inventory and of the documentary and bibliographical register, using technological support enabling the relevant information to be made available on the website of the Regional Government;
- Provide support, within the scope of its competences, to all services of the PGRA;
- To perform any other duties assigned to it by law or by a higher determination.

Access
The PGRA Archive is not open to the public.
Access to the documentation shall be made at the written request and addressed to the Secretary General, and the consultation shall take place in person at the premises of the Archive, following a higher approval.
Timetable
The Archive operates from Monday to Friday from 9: 00 to 12: 30 and from 14: 00 to 17: 30.
