Press release
Dear visitor,
Welcome to another space dedicated to health in the Region.
Health is a fundamental area nowadays. Physical well-being and mental well-being greatly contribute to the enrichment of the population at various levels. A healthy population contributes to a high level of self-esteem in the Region, leading to higher productivity and a healthier family environment.
However, health in the Azores Autonomous Region is not only about access to primary care through health care or access to differentiated care at hospitals. It also involves a health education area whose mission is to promote and disseminate measures towards the better use of health services by the population as well as to foster the participation of the community in the various health policy goals of the Region.
Therefore, the Regional Directorate for Health (DRS) is responsible for promoting this service as the operating system of the Regional Secretariat for Health (SReS) in the coordination, supervision, study and technical-normative support of the health sector.
In a digital era, it is the responsibility of the DRS to use all the technological means at its disposal to disseminate its services, making them available to the population in general. The use of this portal is, thus, justified as an effective means to achieve these goals.
The information provided in this area includes various types of support material for health users, whether institutional, generic or functional, all of which regarding regional health. From online forms to all kinds of news and events, this will be a dynamic area, so that users may find on these pages a point of interest for later consultation and useful information for occasional consultation.
Thank you.

Press release
Following statements made by MP António Lima regarding the haemodialysis service at the Divino Espírito Santo Hospital (HDES), the Regional Health Authority would like to clarify the following: No application for the licensing of private healthcare facilities in the area of haemodialysis/dialysis has been submitted to the Regional Health Authority. The said company only holds licences for the wholesale distribution of medicines, veterinary medicines and medical devices. It should be noted that the Regional Directorate for Health, and not municipalities, is responsible for licensing any application for healthcare activities, whether public or private, by technicians from the Regional Directorate for Health. Regarding the haemodialysis service, as is public knowledge, the functional programme of the new HDES is currently under analysis. The Analysis Committee will evaluate the future operation of that service. It should be noted that, to date, no decision has been made in this regard and that it will be the responsibility of the Regional Government of the Azores. It is reiterated that any decision that may be taken regarding the haemodialysis service will have as its sole purpose the well-being of the users of the Regional Health Service and will not be based on ideological preconceptions.

Courses such as MRMI enable professionals to respond more effectively, stresses Mónica Seidi
The Regional Secretary for Health and Social Security, Mónica Seidi, praised the Medical Response to Major Incidents (MRMI) course. She stressed that initiatives such as this "are an opportunity to conduct simulations that closely resemble real-life situations and train professionals, whether in health care or other fields, to respond more effectively." The MRMI is not only aimed at healthcare professionals. It is intended for professionals from different areas of intervention, namely firefighters, emergency technicians, doctors, nurses, psychologists, social workers, civil protection agents, military and security forces, the Criminal Investigation Police, press officers, journalists, as well as all professionals with management, command and monitoring responsibilities in Integrated Medical Emergency Systems," stressed the government official. The course is an international postgraduate programme whose main goal is to promote an integrated response to disasters by all Civil Protection units. “We must continue to train all entities directly involved in situations such as this, all professionals within the Regional Directorate for Health, Civil Protection and Fire Services, so that we can continue to respond more effectively to situations that could lead to fatalities,” continued Mónica Seidi. This year's edition of MRMI involved 130 participants. It was organised in partnership with the Regional Government, the Praia da Vitória Vocational School, the Praia da Vitória Municipal Council and the Praia da Vitória Humanitarian Association of Volunteer Firefighters.
