Protection of the Coastal Orla

With the advent of global climate change, in addition to theories pointing to an intensification of the torrential winter storm regimes, it is clear that the sequence of extreme events that have hit the Azores in recent years are concrete evidence of these forecasts and require a set of actions to further protect the coastal areas of the islands of the Azores.

There is therefore an increased need to find and implement tools to prevent the decline of the marine riparian areas of the Azores as a result of the intensification of erosion and abrasion.

Coastal protection of the Azores archipelago is one of the most important issues that have been discussed and invested in recent years, and the following measures have so far taken place:
