Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Action

The organisational structure of the XIII Regional Government of the Azores, approved by the Regional Implementing Decree no. 28/2020/A of December 10, 2020, reflects the decisions taken for the governance of the Azores, namely the strategic guidelines based on the public policies pursued by the XIII Regional Government.

It defines the competences of the departments of the XIII Regional Government of the Azores, with particular reference to Article 15, which defines the competences of the Regional Secretary for the Environment and Climate change:

The Regional Secretary for the Environment and Climate Change is responsible for the following areas:

a) Environment;

b) Prevention, mitigation and adaptation to climate change effects;

c) Sustainable development;

d) Land use and spatial planning;

e) Cartography and geographical information;

f) Protection and management of water resources;

g) Planning, management, conservation and protection of the natural and landscape heritage;

h) Protection and enhancement of biodiversity;

i) Waste prevention and management;

j) Environmental inspection.

Furthermore, the Regional Implementing Decree no. 28/2020/A of December 10, 2020, stipulates that the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change shall be headquartered in the city of Ponta Delgada.
