Technical visit to Cres
As part of the DIGITAL ISLANDS project, Cres City Council sent the project partners a letter of invitation to participate in the V Technical Visit, which takes place between 19 and 21 May 2026, in the city of Cres, Croatia.
The program of the V Technical Visit includes a set of thematic sessions and presentations of practical cases that address areas of great relevance to the Azorean reality, namely the digitalisation of public services and territorial management, smart and sustainable tourism, mobility adapted to small-scale communities, data-based environmental management and the use of emerging technologies in island contexts. Examples to be highlighted include initiatives such as: Digitalisation in emergency management (use of digital modelling for fire and crisis response); Digital platforms for tourism management and local experiences, with the potential to adapt to the context of Azorean tourism; smart mobility and transport-on-demand projects, with strong applicability on smaller islands; Circular economy solutions and waste management through sensors and artificial intelligence, aligned with regional sustainability targets; Telemedicine and e-health applications, an area of particular interest for improving access to care in the outermost islands.
