Citizen’s Space

This space is intended to provide citizens with information on the European Union and on various European issues that are of interest to them and which may in some way be useful in their daily lives.

EUROPEDIRECT

I’m moving to another European country: how can I obtain a residence permit? What are the rules on roaming charges? My flight was cancelled: what rights do I have? What EU grants can my organisation apply for? To answer these and many other questions, please contact the information service closest to you.

EURES: EUROPEAN JOB MOBILITY PORTAL

Would you like to go to another Member State of the European Union? EURES is the easiest way to find information on job and training opportunities in Europe. Here you can find the main novelties regarding competitions for the European institutions and work opportunities in other Member States.

EUROPEAN YOUTH PORTAL

Here is information for young Europeans who want to explore the possibilities of living, studying or working in another part of our continent. This portal can also be used to provide feedback in online discussion forums or to get answers to questions via the Eurodesk network.

EUROPASS

Europass is intended to help citizens present their skills and qualifications in a clear and easily understandable way across Europe (European Union, EFTA/EEA and candidate countries) and promote their mobility in Europe.

EUROPEAN HEALTH INSURANCE CARD

Do you know the European Health Insurance Card? This is a document that makes it possible to use healthcare in other European countries, under the same conditions as citizens who live there, so if you are travelling to Europe, you can take your card by going to a Loja RIAC or to the Social Security.

PASSENGER RIGHTS

Denied boarding? Cancellation? Long delay? Have you lost your luggage? Reduced mobility? Do you need assistance — if you are travelling by plane, check your rights first to enjoy the best possible service. The fact that the Union has adopted legislation to protect air passengers is not sufficient. In order to be able to assert your rights, you first need to know them.

SOLVIT

Solvit is an informal and free network to solve problems arising from the misapplication of internal market legislation, such as the recognition of professional qualifications and diplomas, residence permits, driving licences or labour rights, among others. There is a Solvit Centre in each Member State and in the Azores the office of the Deputy Regional Secretary of the Presidency for External Relations serves as an intermediary with Centro Solvit — Portugal, based in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Lisbon.

E-JUSTICE PORTAL

It is a one-stop-shop for access to justice across the EU, benefiting citizens, businesses, lawyers and judges in cross-border legal matters, boosting mutual understanding of different legal systems and contributing to the creation of a single area of justice.

EUROPEAN OMBUDSMAN

The European Ombudsman — Could he help you? How can you help citizens? How can you submit a complaint? Find out how to exercise your rights as a European citizen.
