"Regional and National Governments collaborate on new regulations for regional electricity system"
The Regional Secretary for Tourism, Mobility and Infrastructures, Berta Cabral, met on Wednesday with the Assistant Secretary of State for Energy, Jean Barroca, in Lisbon, to discuss the organisation of the regional electricity system. The Government of the Azores, through the Regional Secretariat headed by Berta Cabral, is working on the new organisation and operation of the Region's electricity system in conjunction with the National Government. It is a system adapted to the regional reality of the national and European framework, complying with the European directive on the internal market for electricity. Berta Cabral emphasised that the work in progress aims to adapt national law to the Region. She explained: "In this regard, we have to draw up all regulations in coordination with the national system." The meeting with the Secretary of State "served to establish dialogue between the Directorate-General for Energy and the Regional Directorate for Energy to proceed with the respective regulations," added the government official. It should be noted that the Government legislation regulating the regional electricity system was approved by the Azorean Parliament last December and is expected to be implemented within six months. In addition, it must take into consideration several specific aspects regarding the licensing of investment intentions for independent production from renewable energy sources that are currently pending.

Applications for SOLENERGE reopen from today until February 28
Applications for the SOLENERGE programme are now open for the installation of solar photovoltaic systems for self-consumption from today until February 28. This announcement reopens the submission of new incentive applications under this important tool, which aims to support the energy transition in the Azores. Created under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), SOLENERGE has an overall budget of €60 million, targeting 38.2 MW of installed capacity in the Autonomous Region of the Azores. As of today, the programme has an estimated approved incentive amounting to €45 million. As such, reopening applications is necessary to ensure compliance with the targets set and agreed with the European Commission. The roles of beneficiaries and installers in ensuring the speed and efficiency of the program's implementation are emphasised, aiming to achieve the overall target of 38.2 MW. This will strengthen SOLENERGE as an essential tool for promoting renewable energy and reducing the region's energy dependence. SOLENERGE is part of Investment C14-i03-RAA – Energy Transition in the Azores, as part of the RRP, and covers 100% of eligible expenses for the purchase and installation of photovoltaic systems, up to a limit of €1,500 per kilowatt of installed capacity. The programme is aimed at citizens and collective entities, except the regional and central administrations. Applications must be submitted at https://solenerge.azores.gov.pt.
