Anselmo Fernandes Falcão Regional Environment Inspector
Biographical Note

Born in Angra do Heroísmo, he attended the PhD in Agrarian Sciences, specializing in Soil Sciences. He completed the Master in Agronomic Engineering, and the Degree in Guides of Nature, by the School of Agrarian and Environmental Sciences, of the University of the Azores, where he was distinguished with a Diploma of Merit, due to his academic performance.

He joined the Portuguese Army in 2004, having provided military service under contract in the category of Sergeants, performing command, leadership and technical leadership functions, of an executive nature, of an administrative, logistical and training nature.

He worked at the Environmental Protection Nucleus of Angra do Heroísmo, integrated in the Service for the Protection of Nature and the Environment, of the National Republican Guard, an institution to which he belongs since 2007.

He has several professional specialization courses, including, among others, the Criminal Investigation Course, the Drug Crimes Investigation Course, both taught by the National Republican Guard, as well as the Nature and Environment Protection Course, taught by the Agency Portuguese Environment Agency.

He was responsible for the investigation of crime investigations, delegated by the Public Prosecutor's Office in the matter of environment, as well as for the various procedural steps and acts inherent in the instruction of administrative offenses, within the scope of environmental, health and animal protection legislation.

Thus ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory provisions regarding the conservation and protection of nature and the environment, land use, water resources, soils and game, fish and forest wealth, among others.

As part of the pursuit of its competences, it also promoted awareness, information and education in environmental matters, nature conservation and biodiversity.

He was distinguished by his employer, the National Republican Guard, with the award of two decorations and three praises, namely the medals of exemplary behavior and attendance, as well as the praises of blood and professional performance.

He has participated in several scientific meetings in the areas of Environment and Agronomy, highlighting his participation as a speaker, in the VII Iberian Congress of Soil Sciences and in the VI National Congress of Irrigation and Drainage, which took place at the Polytechnic Institute of Beja, in 2016.

He collaborated with the “Agricultural scientist”, in the elaboration of articles, with a view to bringing the population closer to science, as well as to research applied to the agricultural sector.

He is a member of the Portuguese Soil Science Society (SPCS), which aims to study soil characteristics, conservation and protection.

He also has the status of Certified Trainer by the Regional Secretariat for Education and Culture of the Azores, in areas such as Agrarian Sciences and Environmental Education.
