The Autonomous Region of the Azores has been associated with the Network of European Regions Using Space Technologies (NEREUS) since its foundation - Government Council Resolution No 31/2008 of 3 March 2006 - being currently represented on this network according to Order No. 340/2023 of March 2, 2023.
This network brings together European regions using space technology and aims to exploit the benefits of space technologies for their populations, and disseminate their different applications, as well responding to the needs of end-users of these technologies.
It aims to achieve, inter alia, the following objectives:
• Involvement in European Union programmes to meet the needs of end-users of technology;
• Promote and implement partnerships;
• Increase citizen’s participation in European space policy;
• Increase the exploitation potential of Space Technologies to sustain economic growth in the regions;
• maintain a close dialogue and relationship with the European authorities.
NEREUS plays a key role in the regional dimension of European space policy and programmes.
