The Regional Labour Conciliation and Arbitration Service (SERCAT), operating in the Region for more than 30 years, is an alternative means of solving labour disputes. It is an alternative means of labour dispute resolution, which is responsible for conducting conciliation proceedings in conflicts arising under individual employment contracts that have been voluntarily submitted to this entity, either by employees or by employers.
SERCAT is a free, simplified and rapid solution to solve disputes in conjunction with the associations representing workers and employers by reaching a consensus among the parties concerned. It has a success rate of over 50% in disputes settled.
Endowed with technical autonomy and independence, SERCAT is under the administration of the Regional Secretariat for Youth, Vocational Training and Employment. The technical and administrative support necessary for its operation is provided by the Regional Directorate for Employment and Vocational Training (DREQP) - Directorate of Labour Services and the Operational Units of Angra do Heroísmo and Horta. The conciliation meetings are carried out face to face and by videoconference.
The intervention of SERCAT observes the principles of independence and impartiality.
