The implementation of regional policy measures in the fields of science and technology (S&T) in the Autonomous Region of the Azores is carried out by two entities - the Regional Directorate for Science and Technology (DRCT) and the Regional Fund of Science and Technology (FRCT); both are directly under the administration of the Vice-Presidency of the Regional Government of the Azores.
The FRCT is an entity endowed with autonomy regarding its administration, finances and assets. It is responsible for coordinating and managing financial resources in the context of the financing of scientific research and technological development.
The areas of action of FRCT fall within the strategy pursued by the Regional Government of the Azores for the implementation of R&D-based economic development axis, namely:
• Supporting advanced training through the awarding of different types of research grants;
• Financing and/or participating in the organisation of relevant international events for the scientific community;
• Financing and/or participating in regional, national and international projects as coordinator or partner;
• Supporting the participation of other regional entities, especially from the Azores Scientific and Technological System (SCTA), in external financing programmes, such as HORIZON 2020.
