The Autonomous Region of the Azores has two technology parks — one based on the island of São Miguel (Nonagon) and one on the island of Terceira (Terinov).
NONAGON
Nonagon is the first Science and Technology Park of the Autonomous Region of the Azores. It is located in the city of Lagoa, the island of S. Miguel. It currently has a fully functioning building with more than 200 employees from more than two dozens of businesses linked mainly to digital and tourism.
This important innovation hub on the island of São Miguel will have its enhanced capacity when completing the new building — known as Lot 32 — which, in addition to the increase in available incubation places, will provide capacity that has not hitherto existed in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, such as a high-performance computer, a state-of-the-art fablab and a data visualisation room.
Terinov
Terinov is located in Angra do Heroísmo on the island of Terceira. It is particularly designed to act as an interface in the fields of agro-industry and cultural and creative industries.
It is intended to be a key player in business innovation in the Azores, through the enhancement of human resources, the transfer of technology and knowledge and training.
Santa Maria RAEGE station
The first RAEGE station of the Azores is located in the Piquinhos on the island of Santa Maria. It is equipped with a radiotelescope and is the result of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Spain and the Government of the Azores for the construction, installation and operation of four Basic Geodetic Stations. Of these, two are located in Spain (Yebes and Gran Canária) and two in the Azores (Santa Maria and Flores). They are intended for studies in the field of astronomy, geodesy, geophysics and related public service applications.
The Santa Maria RAEGE station also has other equipment such as: sismograph, gravity meter, accelerometer, hydrogen jack, two permanent GNSS stations and a meteorological station.
