ATL — Initiation to Programming

GROW Up School is an introductory project to the youth programming of Cooperativa A PONTE NORTE, CRL with the support of the Regional Directorate for Science and Digital Transition.

It covers students from the last year of pre-school and the 1th cycle of basic education, based on the response to the publication of the Directorate-General for Education “Initiating Programming in the 1th Cycle of Basic Education — September 2015”.

Work is being carried out in Ateliers de Tempos Livres (ATL) on the island of S. Miguel, where students work on the creation and development of projects, developing the skills areas of the learner’s profile and key learning, using facilities such as: Coding Awbie, MatataLab, DocRobot, Code-a-Pillar, Makey-Makey, tablets and ps.

The main purpose of this project is that students not only learn how to programme, but at the same time learn by programming, using programming for the development of logical reasoning and problem-solving.

As well as stimulating creativity, critical thinking and teamwork among students, the dissemination of scientific culture and familiarisation with new technologies is reflected in the acquisition of knowledge, contributing to a population with digital literacy and active citizenship.
