Vice-Presidency of the Government creates five study support centres funded by RRP - Communication

The Vice-Presidency of the Government, through the Regional Directorate for the Promotion of Equality and Social Inclusion, promoted on Tuesday the opening of the first study centre of the Azores in the parish of Maia, São Miguel Island, which begins its activity in September.

In addition, another four study spaces will open this year in non-formal spaces with the aim of promoting study habits and methods, with one on the island of Terceira and four on the island of São Miguel.

The five study centres fall within a pilot project funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). This year, they are expected to reach between 100 and 150 children.

This pilot project is intended to address the shortcomings identified regarding the monitoring of the most vulnerable families in the school path of their children, with a view to promoting their academic and personal success. 

It is also our intention to ensure that all children and young people, from the beginning of their lives, can experience an integrated and inclusive development.

Hence, the study centres will ensure the supervised study of these children and young people, stimulating the taste for study and the acquisition of knowledge.

In addition to the study centre opened today, which will be operated by Tetrapi in partnership with the Santa Casa da Misericórdia da Maia, the pilot project includes the creation of study centres in the following parishes: Fenais da Luz, in partnership with Fenais da Luz Community Centre; Ponta Garça, which will be implemented in partnership with UNOJovens; Rabo de Peixe, in partnership with Ponte Norte; and Terra-Chã, in partnership with Divertiláxia.

During the event, the Director for the Promotion of Equality and Social Inclusion, Sandra Garcia, on behalf of the Vice-President of the Government, Artur Lima, highlighted that the project is based on "drawing new lines of action to contribute to a paradigm shift that will break the vicious cycles of school failure and social exclusion."

This initiative falls within the RRP measure - "Creation of study support centres for children and young people from low-income families, through incentives" - which is part of component C03-i04-RAA - Implementing the Regional Strategy to Combat Poverty and Social Exclusion.
