The Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Rural Development reports that, as a result of the official survey works, the presence of the elsinoë fawcettii fungus was quickly eradicated in three orchards on the island of São Miguel and in one orchard on the island of Santa Maria.

Following official survey works, the presence of this fungus was confirmed in samples taken from these orchards and has since been eradicated.

All legal procedures are and will continue to be implemented in strict compliance with the law. There will be an intensification of surveys among citrus growers, as they are the ones affected by this fungus.

his is a quarantine fungus that attacks various plants of the rutaceae family, and whose most susceptible hosts are the bitter orange tree, lemon tree, mandarin lime tree, mandarin tree, mandarin orange tree and grapefruit tree.
