The application period for the "New Elderly" Programme is open from today until July 8, 2022, covering, in this phase, the municipalities of Ponta Delgada and Praia da Vitória, in a pilot-project format.

Applications can be made at the respective institutions, namely Luís Soares de Sousa Home and D. Pedro V Home or at the email: [email protected].

This programme aims to implement a proximity response, which allows the elderly to continue living at home and in the community while safeguarding their safety and independence.

In practical terms, it involves the creation and implementation of an Individual Care Plan (ICP) and the allocation of monthly financial aid of up to 948 Euros, which will ensure the necessary services and assistance for basic activities of daily living.

People aged 65 or over are eligible to apply for the "New Elderly" Programme. It is open to those who are beneficiaries of the Dependence Supplement level 1 or level 2 or are in a similar situation. Additionally, they are required to be in one of the following situations: living alone or with relatives in situations where the existing social responses prove to be insufficient to address the needs of the elderly.

The Programme is regulated by the Resolution of the Government Council no. 13/2022 of  February 21. The respective scheme and, in particular, the implementation and application procedures were approved by Ministerial Order no. 42/2022 of June 14.

The application period, for the year 2022, runs from June 27 to July 8. The form is available at: https://bit.ly/3A2CmM1.

The opening notice of application no. 03/C03-i04/2022 is available at https://recuperarportugal.gov.pt/candidaturas-prr/.

This pilot project is funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) and has an estimated budget of 1.3 million Euros for the current year.

This year, this initiative is expected to cover 100 older people in the aforementioned municipalities.
