Last 24 hours: 

28 new positive cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed in the Azores, with 20 on the island of São Miguel, five on the island of Santa Maria, two on the island of Faial and one on the island of Terceira, following 840 tests carried out in contracted laboratories and six in non-contracted laboratories. 

On the island of São Miguel, 12 of the new cases were registered in the municipality of Ponta Delgada, five in the municipality of Ribeira Grande, one in Vila Franca do Campo and one in the municipality of Lagoa. Two cases correspond to non-residents travelers, one who tested positive upon arrival and one after presenting symptomatology. The other cases are related to community transmission.

On the island of Santa Maria, the five positive cases now registered correspond to local transmission.

On the island of Faial, the two registered cases correspond to non-resident travellers who tested positive after presenting symptomatology.

On the island of Terceira, a new positive case was registered, referring to a resident traveller, who tested positive after presenting symptomatology.

Hospitalisations:

As of today, there are six patients hospitalised, all at the Divino Espírito Santo Hospital in Ponta Delgada, none in intensive care unit.

Recoveries: 

Nine recoveries were registered in the archipelago, four on the island of São Miguel, four on the island of Terceira and one on the island of Pico.

Current situation:

In the course of the epidemiological investigation, it was verified that a positive case initially allocated to the municipality of Ponta Delgada, on the island of São Miguel, submitted documentation demonstrating previous infection and its recovery, and is no longer considered an active case.

The archipelago currently registers 164 positive active cases: 149 on the island of São Miguel, six on the island of Santa Maria, four on the island of Faial, three on the island of Terceira and two on the island of Pico.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 9,207 positive cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed in the Azores, and 8,815 people recovered from the disease. There were 44 deaths, 95 people who left the archipelago and 89 cases with history of previous cure. 

From December 31, 2020 to October 11, 173,743 people in the Azores have been vaccinated with the first dose (73,4 per cent) and 192,750 with complete vaccination (81,4 per cent), under the Regional Vaccination Plan.
