72 new positive cases of covid-19 were diagnosed in the Azores in the last 24 hours, with 38 on the island of Terceira and 34 on the island of São Miguel, following 2,907 analyses carried out in the reference laboratories of the Region.

On the island of São Miguel, two cases concern travellers, one resident and one non-resident, who tested positive on the 6^th day. The other cases are related to community transmission. Thus, in the municipality of Lagoa, there are 10 new cases, in the municipality of Ponta Delgada, it was registered 15 new cases, in the municipality of Ribeira Grande, there are eight new cases, and in the municipality of Vila Franca do Campo, there are also a new case.

On the island of Terceira, 35 of the new cases are related to previous primary local transmission chains, two cases presented symptoms and are still to be assessed, and one is a traveller, who tested positive upon arrival. Thus, in the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo there are 19 new cases and in the municipality of Praia da Vitoria, were also registered 19 new cases. It was registered a death during yesterday of a patient hospitalised at the Santo Espírito Hospital of Terceira Island, a 71 years old man, residing in the parish of Santa Cruz, Praia da Vitoria. The man concerned died as a result of organ or system failure. The patient in question suffered from various comorbidities.

It was verified that a positive case, identified in the parish of Santo António de Nordestinho, municipality of Nordeste on the island of São Miguel left the archipelago.

In the course of the epidemiological investigation, it was found that a positive case previously reported was in fact a false positive, from the parish of Ribeira Seca, on the island of São Jorge.

In the course of the epidemiological investigation, it was found that four positive cases, initially allocated in the parish of Ribeira Chã, municipality of Lagoa, on the island of São Miguel, are residing in the parish of Cabouco same municipality, so the data set out in the table below reflect this change.

Also in the last 24 hours, 45 recoveries were registered (see Table Annex 2).

As of today, 11 patients are hospitalised, all at the Divino Espírito Santo Hospital in Ponta Delgada (with three in intensive care unit).

The archipelago currently has 436 active positive cases:307 on the island of São Miguel, 95 on the island of Terceira, 10 on the island of Pico, nine on the island of São Jorge, seven on the island of Flores, seven on the island of Faial and one on the island of Graciosa. Two primary local transmission chains have been extinguished on the island of Pico and nine primary local transmission chains are now active in the archipelago, with six on the island of Terceira, one on the island of São Jorge, one on the island of Faial and one between the island of São Miguel and Flores. To date, 209 have been extinguished on all islands. There are 742 people under active surveillance today.  

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 7,113 positive cases of covid-19 have been diagnosed in the Azores and 6,497 people recovered from the disease. There were 35 deaths, 85 people who left the archipelago and 60 cases with history of previous cure. To date, 618,910 tests have been carried out for SARS-CoV-2, which causes covid-19 disease.

From last 31 December 2020 until July 8, 250,705 doses of covid-19 vaccines have been administered in the Azores, with 129.190 people who received the first dose (53.21 % of the population) and 121.515 people with complete vaccination (50.05 %), under the Regional Vaccination Plan.
