Azores register fewer than 5,000 Social Integration Income beneficaries for the first time - Communication

The Regional Secretary for Health and Social Security, Mónica Seidi, highlighted the latest figures regarding the Social Integration Income (RSI) in the Autonomous Region of the Azores. They show a positive trend and mark a historic milestone in the history of this welfare benefit.

In May 2026, the Azores registered a total of 2,168 households and 4,928 RSI beneficiaries.

For the first time since records of this social benefit began in the Region, the number of RSI recipients has fallen below 5,000. This result reflects a sustained trend towards reduced dependence on this support measure as well as the efforts to promote social inclusion, employability and the autonomy of Azorean families.

Between April and May 2026, there was a decrease of 50 households and 168 RSI beneficiaries, confirming the positive trend observed in recent months.

The year-on-year comparison also confirms this trend. Between May 2025 and May 2026, there was a reduction of 1,058 beneficiaries, corresponding to a 17.7% decrease.

For Mónica Seidi, these results demonstrate that the public policies pursued by the Regional Government have helped to bolster social inclusion mechanisms and create conditions that enable individuals and families to overcome situations of vulnerability.

“This is a very significant milestone for the Region. The fall in the number of RSI beneficiaries to below five thousand shows that we are achieving tangible results in promoting the autonomy of Azorean families, through close and integrated social intervention geared towards empowering people,” concluded the Regional Secretary for Health and Social Security.
