New RecFishing app allows electronic recording of catches for recreational fishers in the Azores
Secretaria Regional do Mar e das Pescas
The Regional Government announces that the RecFishing app is now available for download on the Play Store and App Store.
This digital tool was designed to ensure compliance with the mandatory daily catch reporting requirement for recreational fishers in the Region, in accordance with recent amendments to European fisheries control regulations.
The introduction of this requirement stems from Regulation (EU) 2023/2842. It stipulates that recreational fishers must report their catches daily and electronically, with a specific focus on species subject to European Union conservation measures.
Currently, the mandatory registration regime in Portugal covers the following species: bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus), blue marlin (Makaira nigricans), white marlin (Tetrapterus albidus), black marlin (Tetrapturus georgii) and European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax).
With RecFishing, the reporting process becomes quick and accessible, ensuring that recreational fishing contributes to the collection of scientific data essential for the sustainable management of marine resources.
For clarification on how the application works, fishers can contact technical support by email at [email protected].
Additional questions about recreational fishing in the Azores should be sent to theRegional Inspectorate of Fisheries and Maritime Uses at [email protected].
