Young people residing in Mainland Portugal and the Autonomous Region of Madeira who are interested in undertaking a professional traineeship in the Azores under the ESTAGIAR L and ESTAGIAR T programmes can submit their applications between January 2 and March 31, 2026.

According to the Order issued by the Regional Secretary for Youth, Housing and Employment, Maria João Carreiro, published in the Official Journal, which identifies the priority areas for traineeships, the training period will begin within 10 working days of the approval of the application and respective notification to Social Security, up to a date no later than April 30, 2026.

Applications from young people and entities promoting traineeships must be submitted at https://empregojovem.azores.gov.pt/, where approved training opportunities are advertised.

ESTAGIAR L is aimed at recent higher education graduates with level 6, 7 or 8 qualifications under the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) who have never worked in their field of training under an employment contract after completing their degree.

The ESTAGIAR T programme is designed for recent graduates of vocational courses, at level 4 or 5 of the NQF, who have not worked in their respective field of training under an employment contract after completing their training.

Traineeships last for 12 months, including a rest period during the 12th month. They may be extended for a further three months in private entities based on the islands of São Miguel, Terceira and Faial.

On the islands of Santa Maria, São Jorge, Pico, Graciosa, Flores, and Corvo, traineeships may be extended for an additional six months in private employers and for three months in public administration entities.

Trainees are awarded a monthly grant corresponding to the Minimum Monthly Wage in the Region, with a 5% increase in the case of ESTAGIAR T and 25% in the case of ESTAGIAR L, in addition to a meal allowance at the rate applicable to the public administration.
