The Regional Secretary for Health and Social Security, Mónica Seidi, stated today that the Regional Government has already invested about 11 million Euros this year alone in upgrading careers in the Regional Health System.

Speaking in Angra do Heroísmo, after a meeting with the Public Administration Workers' Union (SINTAP), Mónica Seidi was clear: "We are fulfilling our commitment to the Regional Health Service professionals."

"This year alone, following the agreements signed with the representative organisations of the different careers, we have already accelerated a very significant amount. We will continue with our commitments until the end of the year. In particular, I am talking about nurses, senior diagnostic technicians, doctors, general careers and auxiliary health workers," she said.

So far, she added, about 300 health professionals have already transitioned to the new Auxiliary Health Technician career.

She pointed out that not all operational assistants are eligible for this transition, and it is up to the institutions to draw up the lists.

"We acknowledge that this has been a lengthy process, especially in the Region's two largest hospitals, as it was necessary to complete the process of applying the regional and national accelerators as well as the performance evaluation, which in many cases was delayed for many years. Now, it will be possible for the institutions to draw up the proposed transition list for the new career," she stressed.

Mónica Seidi also pointed out that work has already begun on drawing up the medical career development maps, so this is yet another commitment to be fulfilled by the Regional Government.

"This entire process is extremely complex. It has only been possible to reach a successful conclusion with the work of all those involved and a close dialogue with the trade union organisations of different careers. There are pending situations that still need legal analysis, but we will continue our work," stated the Regional Secretary.
