The Regional Secretary for Health and Social Security, Mónica Seidi, announced today that the three Inclusion Desks in operation since December 2024 have already provided more than a thousand services to people with disabilities.

The government official announced these figures at the opening of the fourth Inclusion Desk, in the city of Ribeira Grande, at the premises of the Institute for Social Security of the Azores (ISSA).

“The Azorean Government is committed to being close to the people, all people without exception, giving priority to the most vulnerable. What we are doing here today is a symbolic action for the greatness of the cause and it falls within the Regional Strategy for People with Disabilities (ERIPDA), a strategy aimed at those at risk of exclusion. This is what we are fighting against as we advocate a fairer society for everyone, without exception," she stressed at the occasion.

This was yet another initiative by ERIPDA, which aims to provide relevant information on independent living, accessibility, assistive technologies and products, and training. It stems from the creation of a Regional Directorate by this Government exclusively dedicated to policies promoting equality and social inclusion.

Within the scope of this Directorate, and in conjunction with ISSA, the Ribeira Grande Inclusion Desk has been created and the e Praia da Vitória Desk will also be up and running by the end of the month.

These desks will assist with social security matters relating to disability, which are available at any Social Security Service Centre, as well as other matters outside the Social Security remit. They will also provide guidance and referral in the areas of employment and support for employers, vocational training, tax benefits, accessibility, transport, early intervention and education.

Mónica Seidi also recalled that the Investment Plan for 2025 provides for an investment of €7.7 million for people with special education needs, with a further 167 vacancies planned for these users by the end of the legislative period.

“Social inclusion acknowledges the potential and abilities of everyone, regardless of their limitations. We are committed to this mission,” stated Mónica Seidi.
