The Vice-President of the Regional Government of the Azores attended the opening of Expo 2025 Osaka, at the invitation of the Commissioner-General of Portugal, Joana Gomes Cardoso.
This high-profile event brings together countries from all over the world to share innovations, cultures and visions for the future.
"The presence of the Azores at this event evidences the importance of this international fair for the Autonomous Region of the Azores, providing unique opportunities to promote the archipelago in a wide variety of areas," emphasised Artur Lima, the government official responsible for attracting foreign investment and promoting the Region's economic potential.
Under the theme "Designing the society of the future for our lives," Expo 2025 Osaka is the stage for debate and the presentation of innovative solutions to global challenges, covering areas such as sustainability, cutting-edge technology and international cooperation.
The Vice-President emphasised that "the Regional Government of the Azores is interested in closely following global trends and positioning the Region as an active agent in building a more prosperous and equitable future."
Artur Lima emphasised that "the projection of the Azores and international collaboration are crucial elements for sustainable development and the solution of complex problems transcending geographical borders." According to him, "the Azores, with their exuberant nature and commitment to development models that respect the environment, have a significant contribution to make to the discussion on a greener and more resilient future."
This is also an opportunity to "boost scientific cooperation between the Azores and Japan," with a view to "continuing to project the Region as an Atlantic research platform," stated the Vice-President of the Government.
With the 5th largest Exclusive Economic Zone in Europe and the 20th largest in the world, Portugal is taking part in this international fair under the theme "Ocean: Blue Dialogue." From August 14 to 16, the Portuguese Pavilion at Expo2025 will host a thematic event dedicated to the Azores, including a temporary exhibition and the promotion of regional products.
At the moment, regional products are on sale at the Portugal Pavilion shop at Expo2025, which has attracted a lot of interest from the locals, namely Azorean embroidery.
"We hope the Azorean presence at the exhibition will boost the Region's international image as well as attract investment and new development opportunities," highlighted Artur Lima.
Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai runs from April 13 to October 13, 2025. The Azores will be present under the theme "Between Hearts."
