On Monday, the President of the Regional Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, received State Senator Michael Rodrigues, elected by the State of Massachusetts, accompanied by a delegation of State Senators and Representatives from the United States of America. The visit intended to strengthen ties with the Azorean community, whose influence in the USA has grown recently.

José Manuel Bolieiro highlighted the importance of the Azorean community on the American continent, stating that "the prestige of the US community reflects the hard work and commitment of Azoreans over many decades."

The head of the Azorean Government also emphasised the importance of closely monitoring Azoreans living in the USA, particularly in light of recent US immigration policies.

The concern about the possible deportation of Azorean emigrants by the new US administration was the main issue addressed at the meeting.

"We are not alarmed but attentive and committed to monitoring the situation. The Regional Government will do everything possible to ensure the necessary support for our emigrants," he said.

He also reiterated that "joint efforts between the Azorean authorities and US political leaders is essential if we wish to take effective action on this matter."

In addition to Michael Rodrigues, Senators Mark Montigny (New Bedford), John Cronin (Fitchburg) and Patrick O'Connor (Weymouth) were also present, expressing their commitment to working together with the Regional Government.

This meeting was an opportunity to consolidate the collaboration between the Azorean authorities and the representatives of the State of Massachusetts, consolidating support for the Azorean community and strengthening ties between the Azores and the United States of America.
