José Manuel Bolieiro defines 2025 statutory visits with "focus on dialogue" - Communication

The President of the Regional Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, met today with the members of the Island Councils of the Autonomous Region of the Azores at a meeting that underlined the importance of close dialogue and listening to the specific realities of each island.

"This meeting demonstrates the value we place on active listening and direct contact with the population. Each island has its challenges and potential, and for this reason, it is essential to ensure that the Regional Government is present and attentive to their concerns," stated José Manuel Bolieiro.

The meeting made it possible to define the model and schedule for the 2025 statutory visits, which will take place in the first half of the year given the upcoming local elections. The possibility of holding meetings with the Island Councils on islands where such visits are not mandatory was also discussed, contributing to a more in-depth reflection on the functioning of these bodies.

Among the topics discussed were some of the islands' main concerns, such as air and sea accessibility, housing and health. The head of the Azorean Government acknowledged that these areas require coordinated public investment at a regional level but also adjusted to the specific reality of each island.

He also highlighted the essential role of Island Councils in defining regional priorities and reiterated the Azorean Government's commitment to proximity-based governance, underpinned by consultation and dialogue.

"A Government that listens is a Government that decides better. We will continue to value this model of participatory governance as we believe that the best solutions come from direct contact with those who live and know the reality of each island," he concluded.
