The Secretary for Health and Social Security, Mónica Seidi, attended today the ceremony marking the laying of the first stone for the Reconstruction and Expansion of the Residential Structure for the Elderly (ERPI) and the Creation of a Day Centre in São Roque do Pico.

Also present at the ceremony were the Chair of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de São Roque do Pico, Maria Manuela Goulart Pereira, the Vice-President of the São Roque do Pico Town Council, Susana Alexandra Azevedo Vasconcelos, the governing bodies of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de São Roque do Pico, the MPs elected by the Pico constituency to the Regional Parliament and various local organisations.

"The symbolism of this day will take shape over time, providing the necessary response to at least another 19 users. The Regional Government will never give up on the safety conditions that, alongside the 57 workers at this institution, guarantee daily to meet today's demands, which range from licensing to user comfort," she stressed.

The project includes the refurbishment and upgrading of the existing space as well as the expansion to increase the number of vacancies and improve conditions for users, according to the latest regulations in force.

Agreements with this institution have risen by more than 500 thousand Euros since 2021 and, for this specific project, the investment amounts to five million Euros, with funding from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP).

"People always come first. It is not just an investment in concrete, it is in humanism, like the one we see in this institution, staff and governing bodies working every day for the most vulnerable," concluded Mónica Seidi.
