Paulo Estêvão met with Minister Pedro Duarte about media support - Communication

The Regional Secretary for Parliamentary Affairs and Communities, Paulo Estêvão, met today with the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Pedro Duarte, at the National Parliament in Lisbon, with the national media support plan and measures for the sector being the focus of the meeting.

The Regional Government agrees with the National Government on the role of the press as the driving force of a lively and vibrant democracy.

Pedro Duarte assured the Regional Secretary that the measures included in the Media Action Plan will be applied nationwide, including the autonomous regions, a position that Paulo Estêvão welcomed.

"All the measures will also be implemented in the Autonomous Region of the Azores," he said, stressing that the future regional support programme for the private media, budgeted at two million Euros for 2025, will be implemented in conjunction with the national programme.

Also, regarding RTP, the minister assured that the National Government intends to improve a proximity-based public service, endowing RTP/Açores full autonomy and increasing the necessary resources.
