Regional Government to complete Achadinha housing development with construction of 15 houses - Communication

The Regional Secretary for Youth, Housing and Employment, Maria João Carreiro, chaired today the signing of the consignment agreement and the laying of the first stone for the construction of 15 new houses in Achadinha housing development in the municipality of Nordeste, São Miguel.

The works contract was awarded to the company José de Simas Moniz e Filhos, Lda. for 2.3 million Euros, fully financed under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP). It involves the construction of 12 three-bedroom houses and 3 four-bedroom houses, with a completion period of 450 days.

During the consignment agreement ceremony, held at the João de Melo House, the Regional Secretary recalled that "too many generations have waited too long for these new houses and the successful completion of a procedure that began 20 long years ago, but was forgotten by previous regional governments."

"Time went by and hope faded. But with us, with the PSD/CDS/PPM coalition, it was different and will continue to be different," said Maria João Carreiro.

According to her, this investment will increase the supply of affordable housing in Achadinha. This, combined with the Nordeste Town Council's investments under the 1st Right, will provide the answers the municipality's citizens have been demanding over the years.

Maria João Carreiro also noted that the beginning of this contract for the construction of 15 houses in the parish of Achadinha could have begun five months ago, had it not been for the rejection of the 2024 Plan and Budget, which led to the dissolution of the Legislative Assembly of the Azores.

"This time gap did not prevent us from giving up. We restarted the process, which has now culminated in the consignment agreement of this project, which is important for the parish and the municipality. We aim to honour our commitments to the people," she stressed.

Among other guests, the ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Nordeste, António Miguel Soares, the Regional Director for Housing, Daniel Pavão, the President of Achadinha Parish Council, António Medeiros, the President of the Casa do Povo da Achadinha, Emanuel Raposo, and the representative of the company José de Simas Moniz e Filhos, Lda, Pedro Moniz.
