Aquaculture and blue economy debated at Atlantic Aquaculture Forum
location Angra do Heroísmo

Vice-Presidência do Governo Regional

The Vice-Presidency of the Regional Government is organising the Atlantic Aquaculture Forum in collaboration with the AIR Centre and the Azores Maritime School.

The event brings national and international experts in aquaculture and the blue economy to the Region. It aims to promote innovation in an important sector in the archipelago.

Participants will be invited to discuss the planning and development of the blue economy in the Atlantic for two days. The adoption of innovative techniques and new technologies in aquaculture practices will also be debated to meet the specific needs of this sector.

The blue economy proposes a balanced approach to available marine resources, based on aligning economic interests with the preservation of ocean ecosystems and the sustainable development of coastal and island communities.

The Regional Government has been committed to the continuous development of a strategy for the local and international promotion of aquaculture in the Region with the aim of reducing pressure on fishing resources and restoring ecosystems.

The regional strategic goal for aquaculture is to guarantee food quality and safety, environmental sustainability and animal welfare, when demand for aquatic food is growing globally.

The Atlantic Aquaculture Forum takes place on the mornings of October 14 and 15. The first day will begin at 9 a.m. at the Capitães-Generais Palace in Angra do Heroísmo, and the second day will start at 8:30 a.m. at the Maritime School in the city of Horta.
