Development of three neighbourhoods in Santa Maria Airport Housing Estate authorised

The Regional Secretary for Youth, Housing and Employment, Maria João Carreiro, and the Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Food, António Ventura, who is responsible for Spatial Planning, signed today the joint orders authorising the development of three neighbourhoods in the Santa Maria Airport Housing Estate: the São Lourenço Neighbourhood, the Santa Bárbara Neighbourhood and the Santo Espírito Neighbourhood.

"The end of this stage will allow us to begin the upgrading phase of the entire Housing Estate," stressed the Regional Secretary for Youth, Housing and Employment, Maria João Carreiro.

The interventions planned for the housing estate include upgrading the existing infrastructures and creating the necessary and required infrastructures for water supply, basic sanitation, electricity supply and communications.

The three joint orders will also provide for upgrading the existing homes and new constructions duly registered with the Civil Registry Office and the Tax Office as well as the sale of homes and the plots now created.

The Development Permit for the Santo Espírito neighbourhood, covering 7,632.40 m2, includes 14 housing plots with road areas, pavements, parking spaces and green spaces to be integrated into the municipal public domain. These 14 plots will merge existing two-house complexes, increasing their current size, thereby ensuring better living conditions and compliance with the urban planning rules in force.

The Santa Bárbara neighbourhood, with a total area of 63,776.54 m2, consists of 60 new plots, including 58 housing plots and two for services and commerce. The development permit now issued also includes new road areas, pavements, parking spaces and green spaces to be integrated into the municipal public domain.

With 53,793.23 square meters, the Development Permit for the São Lourenço neighbourhood includes 42 new plots, comprising 38 housing plots and 4 for commerce and services. Likewise, conditions were created for the creation of new road areas, pavements, parking spaces and green spaces to be integrated into the municipal public domain.

The development and housing projects, authorised by joint orders, received the favourable opinion of several external entities, namely the Regional Directorate for Cultural Affairs and Vila do Porto Town Council, as they comply with the urban planning parameters defined for the site and observe the provisions of the applicable land management instruments. It is classified in the Vila do Porto Municipal Master Plan as Urban Soil - Urban Land - Urban Areas to be Consolidated and Urban Soil - Urban Land - Urban Areas to be Redeveloped in an area not included in the Ecological Reserve.

The preparation work to launch the public tender for the Global Infrastructure Project for the Santa Maria Airport Housing Estate, through the Regional Secretariat for Youth, Housing and Employment, is nearing completion, as is the work to begin the preliminary studies and architectural projects for the redevelopment of existing housing and the creation of new building spaces, through the Regional Directorate for Housing.
