Presidência do Governo Regional
The President of the Regional Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, praised on Tuesday night the demographic "stability," achieved "through migration," experienced by the island of Flores over the last two years.
Speaking after a meeting with the Flores Island Council, on the occasion of the Regional Government's statutory visit to the island, José Manuel Bolieiro recalled the implementation of a guide to encourage companies to hire migrants.
In addition, "family support policies" are in place to "stimulate the birth rate," he pointed out to journalists at the end of the meeting in Lajes das Flores.
The reconstruction of the island's commercial port was a topic that arose at the meeting, which has "long been on the agenda" and "will always be on the agenda over the next few years."
The reconstruction of the port will bring progress in fishing and maritime tourism, for example, "ambitious goals that are made in progress" according to financial possibilities and always ensuring that public tenders are not abandoned.
As for health, the President of the Government acknowledged the challenges. Nevertheless, he highlighted the "significant increase in consultations" in recent years under the coalition Government, along with the growing number of specialist doctors travelling to the island.
"All of this has been evolving positively," he stressed.
The Regional Government is ending its annual statutory visit to Flores today, heading to the neighbouring island of Corvo, where it will remain until Thursday, also on a statutory visit.
