Regional investment in housing support programmes has already exceeded 43 million Euros since 2021, with more than 9,400 families receiving support, stated the Regional Secretary for Youth, Housing and Employment.

Maria João Carreiro spoke this week on Terceira island, during the delivery of three houses, from a total of 16 in the parish of Biscoitos, renovated under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), representing an investment of 283 thousand Euros.

"These houses are being renovated with investment from the RRP and delivered to young families with children or single parents, through regional programmes, in this case, a lease support programmme, which is a good example of the efficient use of financial tools to solve housing problems," she said.

The overall investment in housing for families includes about one million Euros in support for the construction and purchase of permanent housing, and almost seven million Euros for municipal councils under the ARAAL contracts in force, which support more than 1,200 families.

Also, regarding the support of families, the Region has continuously supported the recovery of degraded housing through the Renovated Home-Inhabited Home programme, with eight million Euros in direct support to Azorean families.

Maria João Carreiro highlighted the investment in direct support for lease payments to Azorean families.

"Since 2021, the investment in this area has never been less than three million Euros, a figure never reached before. The overall investment between 2021 and 2023 reached close to 10 million Euros," she noted.

There are plans to invest 3.5 million Euros to support 2,022 families in the 2024 Regional Plan and Budget. This figure could increase given that applications for Youth Lease Incentives are open until the end of May.
