SRPCBA marks World Civil Defence Day on March 1 in Angra do Heroísmo

The Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service (SRPCBA) will mark World Civil Defence Day on March 1 in Angra do Heroísmo with an event that will involve more than 20 civil protection agents and entities.

The initiative, which returns to Terceira Island's Multisectoral Park, aims to showcase the capabilities of civil protection agents and other entities. It also intends to involve and raise awareness among the community about the importance of promoting safety, while encouraging attitudes and behaviours to be adopted in case of emergencies.

A wide range of activities will take place throughout the day in several spaces and stalls, including the display of equipment and vehicles, awareness-raising activities and demonstrations.

This date was established by the International Civil Defence Organisation and is annually marked on March 1. It aims to draw the attention of countries to the importance of civil protection, namely regarding prevention and the coordination of efforts in the event of a major accident or disaster.

In addition to the SRPCBA, the event will also be attended by the following entities: the Angra do Heroísmo and Praia da Vitória Fire Brigades, the Angra do Heroísmo and Praia da Vitória Municipal Civil Protection Services, the Portuguese Air Force, the 1st Garrison Regiment, the Public Security Police, the National Republican Guard, the Portuguese Red Cross, the Regional Secretariat for the Environment and Climate Change, the Regional Directorate for Health, the Regional Directorate for Housing, the Regional Directorate for Communications and Digital Transition, the Regional Directorate for Social Solidarity and the Regional Directorate for Forest Resources, the Terceira Island Sports Service, the Zello Azores group, the Praia da Vitória Amateur Radio Association, the São Mateus Local Civil Protection Unit, the Haja Saúde Programme, the Lajes Base Fire Department and the National Scout Corps - Azores Regional Council.

The World Civil Defence Day celebrations are open to the population in general and will take place at  Terceira Island Multisectoral Park between 9 am and 4 pm.

In addition, several activities aimed at the community will take place at various fire stations throughout the Region to mark the occasion.
