The permanent exhibition at the German Colony Winter Garden houses a set of stained glass windows from 1912 of artistic and historical interest, representing the heraldry of the former German Empire. It opened in March this year and has already welcomed 1,000 visitors.

The Winter Garden is part of the Horta Submarine Cable Route, which runs throughout the city, from the cable moorings in Porto Pim to the moorings on Alagoa beach, with special emphasis on the Trinity House and the residential neighbourhoods along Rua Cônsul Dabney (street).

Submarine telegraph cables have played a key role in human history. Telegraph companies were present in Horta between 1893 and 1969. The technological remains as well as the social, cultural and architectural memories make up the Submarine Cable cultural and tourism route in Horta.

The so-called German Colony was the residential neighbourhood of the Deutsche Atlantische Telegraphengesellschaft company, which operated there between 1900 and 1943.

Given the importance of this heritage, the Regional Government, through the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Rural Development, created a permanent exhibition in March 2023 in the Clock Building of the German Colony. The initiative was intended to open it up to the public as a museum, providing a context for the presence of this specific company and creating a tangible place to visit as part of the submarine cable route.

The interest in the history and art present there has already brought 1,000 visitors to the exhibition since it opened last March. It is currently open every working day between 2 pm and 4 pm. It may be visited outside these hours on request at the building's main entrance.
