Preliminary study for expansion and remodelling of Lajes Civil Airport signed
Vice-Presidência do Governo Regional
The Vice-President of the Regional Government of the Azores, Artur Lima, has recently signed a contract with the company Bransolutions - Prestação de Serviços LDA. to conduct the preliminary feasibility study regarding the works contract for the expansion and remodelling of the Lajes Civil Airport, amounting to €59,500.00, plus VAT at the legal rate in force.
The maximum deadline for delivery of the previous feasibility study is set at 180 days after the signing of the contract.
According to Artur Lima, the "expansion of Lajes Civil Airport is a structuring project for the regional economy and for Terceira island," so "the previous feasibility study for the infrastructure expansion is a fundamental step to assess all possibilities.
He added: "This preliminary study aims to find the solution that best fits the future project in terms of the general design of the work."
"Given the passenger flow reached in 2022 and the expected increase in tourist flows to Terceira, the Lajes Civil Airport should have better operating conditions to serve the locals and those who visit us," he explained.
"The island of Terceira, due to its central location in the archipelago, is the gateway for thousands of tourists and emigrants, which clearly justifies a substantial investment in its airport infrastructure," he continued.
Alongside this procedure, another was carried out with a view to acquiring specialised consulting services in civil aviation, with a "compliance, safety and security" approach, to accompany the development of this preliminary study, given its complexity and its technical characteristics.
