From the European Parliament in Brussels, where he is taking part in a special mission for the Region, the Regional Secretary for Health and Sport congratulated today the Azorean civil protection agents on the occasion of the International Civil Defence Day.
"The Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service provides a service of recognised and extraordinary importance throughout our archipelago, with excellent results in the past, and increasingly able to meet future challenges. I congratulate, on this very special day, all those who support it," said Clélio Meneses.
The government official assured "all the commitment of the Regional Government in the resolution of important matters that concern the various civil protection agents in the archipelago." He also noted that the "good institutional cooperation with them has already resulted in important progresses in the last two years regarding issues that had been forgotten in time. Nevertheless, they have been resolved, mostly due to a fruitful and responsible dialogue between both parties.
"Azorean Civil Protection is better prepared today, thanks to the action of its leaders, the training of its agents and the inclusion of advanced technological capabilities. It also shows remarkable dynamics," said Clélio Meneses.
For the head of Civil Protection, "today, the Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service, which stands on equal footing with its counterparts worldwide, has won the trust of the population of the archipelago that has seen its extraordinary commitment to saving lives and solving very difficult scenarios in situations of catastrophe."
"I must also emphasise the extraordinary service that has been recently provided during the Covid-19 pandemic, a fact that reflects the spirit of the mission assigned to the men and women who make this service. I wish them well!" he said.
