The Regional Under Secretary of the Presidency announced today in Praia da Vitória that the e-book "Forum: The Future of the Azores in Europe" will be sent to European Union institutions so that they may "have a better knowledge of the Azores."

"These contributions, which are the result of the forums held, have been compiled into the e-book that we are presenting today. They will be duly forwarded to European institutions," stressed Pedro de Faria e Castro.

"By doing so, we hope that the voice of Azoreans in Europe will be heard and that it will be another moment for the active participation of Azorean citizens. We also hope that it will contribute to a better understanding of the Azores by the European Union," he stressed.

Pedro de Faria e Castro spoke on the sidelines of the launch of the e-book, which took place at the Ramo Grande Auditorium. The event featured the participation of the Europe Direct Açores Information Centre and the remote participation of the European Parliament Office in Portugal and the European Commission Representation in Portugal.

On the occasion, the contributions collected throughout the various thematic sessions of the Forum were officially presented. These sessions took place as part of the participation of the Autonomous Region of the Azores in the Conference on the Future of Europe.

According to the government official, this was an "important moment" insofar as it reflects "a year's work in terms of the Azores' participation in the conference on the Future of Europe."

"We have organised throughout the year sectoral forums that reflect the opinion of Azoreans in different areas of intervention in the life of the European Union," he explained.

The "Forum: The Future of the Azores in Europe" took place between June 2021 and January 2022. It consisted of seven online sessions that brought together more than 500 participants and more than 101 contributions from Azoreans representing different islands, age groups and occupations.

The debates addressed themes such as tourism, democracy, youth and vocational training, the sea and fishing, agriculture, equality and the environment.
