The Regional Secretary for Education presented a document containing the English Language Curriculum Guidelines for the elementary and middle school levels, which aims to be a "useful tool that will also improve teaching practices."

The document was put forward for public discussion. According to Sofia Ribeiro, it intends to "ensure a better management of the entire process of teaching, learning and assessing the English language."

The drafting of the guidelines presented "took into consideration, in a consistent and reflected manner, the most recent studies on teaching in general and on foreign language teaching, in particular," said the government official. As she emphasised, it follows "the evolution of curriculum guidelines at national and European level."

According to the Regional Secretary, this document "encompasses the description of the learning process as well as the targets to be achieved per year of schooling," and also "other documents intended to support the planning and assessment of the learning process."

"This organisational structure aims to make teaching practices more effective, promoting a more dynamic learning," she added.

Sofia Sofia Ribeiro considered this guiding document an "open process," as it provides "a response to various school curricular projects under the scope of their autonomy and curricular flexibility."

The document will be under public consultation on the Government Portal for 30 days. All contributions should be submitted until April 25 via email to [email protected] or by post to the Regional Secretariat for Education at the address: Paços da Junta Geral, Carreira dos Cavalos, 9700-167 Angra do Heroísmo.
