Last 24 hours:

22 new positive cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed in the Azores, with 20 on the island of São Miguel and two on the island of Pico, following 1.084 tests carried out in an approved laboratory.  

On the island of São Miguel, 11 of the new cases were registered in the municipality of Ponta Delgada, four in the municipality of Ribeira Grande, four in the municipality of Lagoa and one in the municipality of Nordeste. Of all the cases registered in São Miguel, 17 are related to community transmission and three correspond to resident travellers who tested positive upon arrival. On the island of Pico, the two new cases were registered in the municipality of Madalena and correspond to two travellers, who tested positive upon arrival.

Hospitalisations:

As of today, there are nine patients hospitalised, six at the Divino Espírito Santo Hospital in Ponta Delgada, two at the Santo Espírito Hospital of Terceira Island and one in the Horta Hospital, the latter in intensive care unit.

Local transmission chains: 

Four primary local transmission chains have been extinguished in the last 24 hours and only one chain, shared between the islands of Faial and Pico is active. To date, 253 have been extinguished. 

Recoveries:  

Five recoveries were registered in the last 24 hours, all on the island of São Miguel.

Current situation:

The archipelago currently registers 176 positive active cases: 162 on the island of São Miguel, seven on the island of Terceira, four on the island of Faial and three on the island of Pico.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 9,132 positive cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed in the Azores and 8,731 people recovered from the disease. There were 43 deaths, 95 people who left the archipelago and 87 cases with history of previous cure.

From 31 December 2020 to September 29, 173,125 people in the Azores have been vaccinated with the first dose (73,2 per cent) and 190,817 with complete vaccination (80,7 per cent), under the Regional Vaccination Plan.
