13 new positive cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed in the Azores, with eight on São Miguel, three on Pico, and two on Faial, arising from 725 tests carried out  in reference laboratories.

On São Miguel, all cases were registered in context of community transmission.
On Pico, three new positive cases were registered in the municipality of Madalena connected to a  secondary local transmission chain in the municipality of Horta, which is now shared between  Faial and Pico.

On Faial, one of the  positive cases is part of a pre-existent local transmission chain and the other one in the municipality of Horta corresponds to a non-resident traveller who tested positive on arrival on the island.

Hospitalizations:
As of today, seven  patients are hospitalized: five in Divino Espírito Santo Hospital, in Ponta Delgada, with one in intensive care, one in Santo Espírito Hospital, in Angra do Heroísmo, and one in the Hospital of Horta.

Local transmission chains:    
A tertiary local transmission chain shared between Pico and Terceira is extinct pursuant to the recovery of its last elements. Likewise, a primary local transmission chain located  in the municipality of Praia da Vitória is considered extinct since all its elements have recovered from the disease.
There are eight active primary local transmission chains in the archipelago now: five on Terceira, one on Faial, one on Pico, and one shared between Pico and Faial. To date, 243 have been extinguished. There are 147 people under active surveillance today.

Current situation:
Currently, there are 104 active positive cases in the archipelago, with 66 on São Miguel island, seven on Pico island, 16 on Terceira island, and 15 on Faial island.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 8,895 positive cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed in the Azores, 8,575 people have recovered from the disease, 42 died, 94 left the archipelago and 80 provided evidence of previous cure. To date, in the archipelago, 692,380 tests have been carried out for SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19 disease.

From 31 December 2020 to 20 September, 172,284 people in the Azores have been vaccinated with the first dose (72,8 per cent) and 186,398 with complete vaccination (78,8 per cent), within the Regional Vaccination Plan.
