17 new positive cases of covid-19 were diagnosed in the Azores in the last 24 hours, all in the island of São Miguel, following 1,992 analyses carried out in the reference laboratories of the Region.

Seven new cases were registered in the municipality of Ponta Delgada (six in Capelas and one in Arrifes). In the municipality of Ribeira Grande there are two new cases (one in Rabo de Peixe and one in the Fenais da Ajuda). In the municipality of Lagoa there is a new case in Rosário and in the municipality of Vila Franca do Campo seven new cases were registered (two in Ponta Garça, two in Água de Alto, one in São Miguel and one in São Pedro). All cases concerning the island of São Miguel were registered in the context of community transmission.

In the same period, 31 recoveries were registered (see table at the end), and there are currently 831 persons under active surveillance.

There are currently seven patients hospitalised, six at the Divino Espírito Santo Hospital in Ponta Delgada and one at the Santo Espírito Hospital of Terceira Island. There is currently no registration of patients in intensive care.

As of today, the Region has 174 active positive cases: 165 in the island of São Miguel, six in the island of Flores, two in the island of Santa Maria and one in the island of Terceira.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 4,981 positive cases of covid-19 have been diagnosed in the Azores and 4,654 people have recovered from the disease. There were 31 deaths, 79 people who left the archipelago and 43 cases with a history of previous cure. The Azores have an active chain in the island of Flores and 201 have already been extinguished.

Up to now, 456,239 tests have been carried out in the archipelago for SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes covid-19 disease. The island of São Miguel is in a state of public disaster, with all municipalities at a high risk level. The remaining islands are Alert, with their municipalities at very low risk level. From 31 December 2020 until 29 April, 79,589 doses of vaccine against covid-19 were administered in the Azores, corresponding to 56,419 people aged 15 or over with the first dose (27.85 % coverage rate), and 23,170 people with both doses (11.44 % coverage rate) under the Regional Vaccination Plan.
