21 new positive cases of covid-19 were diagnosed in the Azores in the last 24 hours, all on the island of São Miguel, within a context of community transmission, following 925 tests carried out in the laboratories of reference in the Region.
The municipality of Ribeira Grande registers five new cases (three in Ribeira Seca, one in Calhetas and one in Ribeirinha). The municipality of Ponta Delgada registers nine cases (three in Livramento, two in São José, two in Fajã de Cima, one in Fenais da Luz and one in São Pedro). The municipality of Lagoa reports six cases (three in Santa Cruz, two in Rosário and one in Água de Pau). In turn, the municipality of Vila Franca do Campo registers one case in the parish of São Pedro.
In the same period, two people recovered from the disease, one in Ribeirinha, Terceira Island, and another in Santa Cruz das Flores.
There are currently 13 patients hospitalised, 12 of them at the Divino Espírito Santo Hospital in Ponta Delgada, with five patients in intensive care, and one at the Santo Espírito Hospital of Terceira Island in intensive care. There are 1,280 active surveillance cases.
As of today, the Region registers 284 active positive cases: 269 on the island of São Miguel, seven on the island of Terceira, seven on the island of Santa Maria and one on the island of Flores. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 4,823 positive cases of covid-19 have been diagnosed in the Azores, with 4,387 people recovering from the disease. There were 31 deaths, 78 people who left the archipelago and 43 cases with a history of previous cure.
A local transmission chain remains active on the island of Terceira. A total of 200 transmission chains have been extinguished.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 439,190 tests have been carried out in the Azores to screen for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes covid-19 disease. The island of São Miguel remains at High Risk, being subject to the containment measures corresponding to this level of risk. All municipalities of the remaining islands of the archipelago are at Very Low Risk. From last December 31, 2020, to April 21, 69,887 people aged 15 or over were vaccinated in the archipelago: 49,477 received the first dose (24.42% coverage rate) and 20,410 the second dose (10.08% coverage rate), as part of the first phase of the Regional Vaccination Plan.
