Terra Chã now has two Family Health Units and ensures GP coverage for every resident

The Regional Secretary for Health and Social Security, Mónica Seidi, has announced that the two Family Health Units (NSF) based at the Terra Chã Community Centre in Angra do Heroísmo will begin operating today, further strengthening the primary healthcare system.
The new unit comprises a multidisciplinary team consisting of a technical assistant, two GPs and two nurses, ensuring the care of patients in adult and elderly health, women’s health and family planning, as well as child and youth health.
With the opening of these Family Health Units, the parish of Terra Chã now benefits from full GP coverage.
“The launch of these Family Health Units represents a further step in the strategy to bolster primary healthcare, bringing services closer to the public and ensuring more accessible and personalised care tailored to the needs of the Azorean population,” stressed Mónica Seidi.
The Regional Secretary also emphasised that this reorganisation of services not only strengthens Terra Chã’s care capacity but also ensures a coordinated response with neighbouring parishes.
Accordingly, nurses assigned to the Terra Chã Family Health Units (NSFs) will continue to provide nursing care in the parishes of Cinco Ribeiras and Posto Santo, spending one hour each day in each parish, thereby ensuring that healthcare is readily available to the local communities.
At the same time, one of the NSF doctors will travel to Cinco Ribeiras every Monday morning to hold consultations for patients aged over 65 or with reduced mobility, thereby facilitating access to medical care for the most vulnerable groups.
The opening of the Terra Chã Family Health Units represents a significant improvement in healthcare provision on Terceira Island, promoting greater accessibility, continued care and health benefits for the population.
