Secretaria Regional da Juventude, Habitação e Emprego
The Regional Secretariat for Youth, Housing and Employment informs that the public tender for the allocation of 13 houses on a lease with purchase option scheme in the São Brás Neighbourhood, in the municipality of Praia da Vitória, Terceira Island, will run from August 15 to September 30 this year.
According to the Order issued by the Regional Secretary overseeing Housing, Maria João Carreiro, and published today in the Official Journal, these new houses are intended for the permanent residence of the applicants and their respective families. The purchase option can only be exercised by the tenant one year after signing the lease agreement.
There are 13 available dwellings: eight two-bedroom houses, four three-bedroom houses, and one four-bedroom house. They were built by the Region as part of the RRP, representing an investment of 2.1 million Euros.
The Regulations, which provide all the information about the conditions and procedure for access and allocation, as well as the allocation of housing, are available for consultation on the website of the Regional Housing Directorate (DRH), at https://portal.azores.gov.pt/web/drh/concursos.
Applications must be submitted by filling in the appropriate form, available on the aforementioned DRH website, at the Housing Department of Terceira Island, located at Rua dos Italianos, n.º 10, 9700-099 Angra do Heroísmo, and at the RIAC (Integrated Citizen Support Network) offices. They should be sent by registered post with acknowledgement of receipt or via the email address of the Housing Department of Terceira Island at [email protected], accompanied by the documents listed in article 7 of the Regulations.
Any requests for clarification on the understanding and interpretation of the Regulations and the Order published today should be addressed to the president of the jury and submitted by the interested parties in writing to the DRH Services of the Terceira Island Housing Department and the corresponding services of the Island Services of the Regional Secretariat for Youth, Housing and Employment. Alternatively, they should be sent to the email address [email protected] no later than September 10, 2025. Requests will be answered within a maximum of three working days from the date on which they are received.
On June 18, during a visit to follow up on the construction works of the new houses in the São Brás Neighbourhood, the Regional Secretary for Youth, Housing and Employment assured us that the public tender for these 13 new housing units will be launched in August, which has now been confirmed.
Maria João Carreiro explained that the lease with purchase option scheme, recently regulated by the PSD/CDS/PPM coalition Government, will allow households, including young, middle-class and single-parent families, to benefit from the housing units built under the RRP and the Regional Budget at prices compatible with their income.
"This Government has made a clear choice and is being consistent, insofar as it is implementing a new housing policy that is fair, inclusive and appropriate not only to the severe housing shortages but also to social groups, such as the middle class and young people, who today face greater difficulties in accessing the housing market," she said.
The Regional Government has already implemented or is implementing 80% of the investment in new housing on Terceira Island, financed under the RRP, totalling 221 properties that have been refurbished and new constructions. This represents a global investment of 24 million Euros, which significantly increases the housing supply on Terceira Island and in the Region.
