The President of the Government of the Azores, José Manuel Bolieiro, addressed a Christmas and New Year message to all Azoreans in the archipelago and the diaspora, emphasising the values of fraternity, solidarity and hope. In the message, he highlighted the role of the Azores as a source of inspiration for the world and the responsibility of young people in building a more prosperous future.

"This festive season, the Azores shine with the light of our traditions. The spirit of Christmas is alive and well on our nine islands and in our diaspora, as Azorean people," emphasised José Manuel Bolieiro.

He also highlighted that the values passed down from our ancestors, such as solidarity and altruism, continue to guide Azorean society.

José Manuel Bolieiro noted that the Azores, as a Region of peace and harmony, can and must be an example to the world in the context of major global challenges, such as wars, inequalities and extreme weather events.

"In the Azores, we are a Region that values peace and harmony, and we want to inspire the world," he said.

Youth, as the main driver of change and development, was one of the key points of the message. The leader of the Azorean Government called for a collective responsibility to prepare young people for a world that is constantly changing, emphasising that the region must be a place of opportunity.

"Young people are the main actors of tomorrow. I know they have the strength, talent and courage to transform their lives, their families, the Azores and the world for the better," highlighted José Manuel Bolieiro.

He also pointed out education, innovation, and sustainability as fundamental pillars of creating a fairer, more inclusive, and prosperous future.

Reflecting on 2024, the President of the Government of the Azores described it as generally positive for Azorean families and businesses, highlighting the Region's social and economic stability despite the challenges. However, he warned of the impacts of global crises, such as war and climate change, and reiterated his commitment to continue working towards a more humane future based on solidarity.

For 2025, José Manuel Bolieiro renewed his call for hope and collective action: "The future is not just a promise for a distant time; it is something built every day. May we be an example of solidarity, prosperity and, above all, love for our neighbours."

He concluded with a message of confidence and wishes for a Merry Christmas and a New Year brimming with health, hope, and fulfilment, stressing his hope that 2025 will not only bring prosperity to the Azores but also peace to the world.
