The President of the Regional Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, accompanied by the Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Food, António Ventura, attended the "Azores Beef Fest," which runs until Sunday in São Miguel.
The "Azores Beef Fest" is a pioneering event, which should become "regular, stable and predictable" in its organisation, and therefore replicated on other Azorean islands.
Organised by the Regional Strategy Centre for Meat in the Azores - CERCA, and the Azores Agricultural Federation, it features seven chefs specialising in meat from Mainland Portugal, Brazil and the Azores, with the aim of enhancing the value of Azorean meat.
"We are projecting a new vision for the promotion and identity of the Azores, as part of our productive economy and, above all, our economic, social and food sustainability as a tourist destination," said José Manuel Bolieiro.
He added: "We can maximise the potential of each island through diversification. The Azores, in this strategic unit, have a different potential on each island."
The President of the Government recalled that food safety, the excellence of products, animal welfare and organic authenticity are factors that the Azores should not neglect.
The Azores, he emphasised, will continue to follow a "path of excellence" based on acquired knowledge and "focusing on diversification."
The President of the Regional Government also took the opportunity to announce that the Government of the Azores will subsidise the purchase of fibrous animal feed and maize seed by 35%. He also announced that farmers are being informed of the allocation of three thousand suckler cow premium rights.
All this development is being achieved due to the ongoing cooperation and dialogue with the Azores Agricultural Federation, with a firm focus on the strategic importance of governance in the Azores for generating wealth and ensuring the prestige of the Region.
The session was also attended by the President of the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of the Azores, Luís Garcia, and the President of the Azores Agricultural Federation, Jorge Rita.
