President of the Government welcomes conversion of former Graciosa health centre into nursing home

The President of the Regional Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, visited the former health centre on the island of Graciosa on Tuesday, which will be adapted into a nursing home to "increase the capacity" of the local residential structure.
"We needed to increase the capacity of the residential structure for the elderly on Graciosa and we will renovate an existing building instead of building a new one. We are concerned with optimising the existing heritage," he said.
The visit was part of the annual statutory visit of the XIV Regional Government to the island of Graciosa.
Also on Tuesday, the Council of the Government authorised the revision of the investment cooperation-value contract between the Regional Government and Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Santa Cruz da Graciosa, providing for a contribution of up to 1.5 million Euros to ensure the necessary funding for the work - the project is supported under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP).
"I hope that in a year we will be opening" this space, he told journalists.
The Regional Government ends today its statutory visit to the island of Graciosa.
