Azores Brand promotes action to promote regional products from Santa Maria Island
Secretaria Regional da Agricultura e Alimentação
The Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Food, through the Azores Brand Management and Promotion Office, is organising a meeting of chefs between July 8 and 12 to promote regional products and gastronomy from Santa Maria.
The initiative aims to praise and highlight the various gastronomic elements that are directly related to the local heritage, with the promotion of producers and restaurants, the main players in translating the cultural and geographical identity of the island.
This meeting also intends to disseminate, deepen and contribute to a greater and better gastronomic experience through production, encouraging the consumption of products from this island.
As such, the following companies are actively taking part in this initiative: Cagarrrita; AçorCactus; Agromariensecoop; Cooperativa de Artesanato de Santa Maria; Mantamaria - Comércio Indústria e Turismo; Outromundo - Atividades de animação turística e restauração; Peixaria Filipe & Gorete; Talhos Ilha do Sol; Mascote Ilha Amarela; and Ângelo de Chaves Braga and ARCOA - Associação Regional de Criadores de Caprinos e Ovinos dos Açores, all of which are members of the Azores Brand.
With the support of the company Chefs Agency, this event also aims to promote an exchange of experiences between local and foreign chefs, providing an opportunity to share skills, knowledge and modus operandi that will help to refine techniques and the restaurants' approach to local products, especially the Azores Brand-certified ones.
The event will be attended by chefs José Pereira (ÕTAKA restaurant, in São Miguel), André Cruz (FEITORIA* Michelin restaurant, in Lisbon) and João Sá (SÁLA* Michelin restaurant, in Lisbon). During the event, participants will visit various production sites, exchange experiences with local restaurants, and explore the best that Santa Maria has to offer in different ways.
The sharing of knowledge and techniques will take place in a similar manner to a training course. The sessions are planned to be attended according to the availability of local restaurants and will culminate with the presentation of a dinner on July 11 to reflect the results of the work carried out during this meeting.
Also accompanying this initiative, which has the collaboration of Visit Azores, are various media organisations that will contribute to the promotion of Santa Maria Island and its gastronomy as a tourist destination.
